EXPERIENCE SOME OF THE BEST FLOWERS: CARLSBAD, CA

I got married in the Spring, there are smells of fresh air, everything is a bit greener, spring cleaning is in full swing, Easter occurs, and of course flowers bloom! Especially the flowers in Carlsbad, CA.

You know what they say, “April showers bring May flowers;” however, in this case, it brings March flowers.

In this post, I am going to give you all the insider tips from a San Diego local girl on how to visit the flowers that bloom in Carlsbad, California.

This year the flower fields are open from March 1- May 10, 2020.

WHERE ARE THE CARLSBAD FLOWER FIELDS?

These beautiful and majestic flowers are located in what is considered North County San Diego. The rolling hills near Legoland are transformed each year into a beautiful display of colorful flowers.

Regardless of whether you are coming from the 1-5 N or the I-5 S you will exit off of Palomar airport road and turn left onto Paseo Del Norte. From there you should be able to follow signs along to the flower fields.

USEFUL INFORMATION ABOUT THESE FLOWER FIELDS

I figured you would be interested in a few pieces of useful information. The flower fields are usually in bloom for about six to eight weeks, so your time is limited to go see this site.

The fields consist of nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers. The flower fields themselves are a smoke-free environment, so please respect this. No pets or drones are allowed. You can purchase a bouquet of flowers if you are looking for a flower arrangement or want to give the gift of flowers to a special someone.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO THE FLOWER FIELDS?

This is a commonly asked question that is popular among my friends. Most girls want to make sure to look cute at these flower fields as it is the perfect Instagram worthy place. So, I have put together a shopping list below of some items I recommend on what to wear to the flower fields.

My personal suggestion is to wear a cute spring dress. Maybe in yellow or pink as those will look good with the flowers and they are springtime colors. I personally wore sandals with my dress because I feel that represents springtime; however, do be warned that it is a lot of walking around. And not only is it a lot of walking, but it is a lot of walking through the dirt. So, make sure you wear sandals that are easily cleanable.

I also like to add accessories when trying to get that perfect Instagram picture, so I recommend bringing a cute sunhat or some cute sunglasses along to add to the picture.

INSTAGRAM TIPS

Like I said before, the flower fields are a very Instagram Worthy place, so make sure to get lots of photos, but also make sure to take time to appreciate the flowers and soak in the beauty around you too.

Tip #1: I spoke to this above, but wearing a cute outfit is really going to help your photo stand out. I know it may sound silly, but this is something I have learned throughout my years of blogging. You have to plan out your outfits. I resisted this for so long, but once I gave in I fell more in love with my photos.

Tip #2: The best photos will be just before sunrise or sunset. This is a tip really for any good photo. Most bloggers and influencers will wake up early to get that good lighting. So, I highly recommend visiting the flower fields during these times.

Tip #3: If you plan to just use your phone and have an iPhone than portrait mode is key. It makes the flowers in the background appear blurred and makes you stand out.

Tip #4: The flower fields have sections where you can partially walk into the rows of the flowers. The key to not getting the dirt in the picture is to have the photographer not stand straight on.

Tip #5: Make sure to capture the beauty of the area as well. Jess from Jess Wandering captures this in a lot of her photos. Check out this photo of her from the super bloom in California this past year.

Tip #6: Posing is an essential key to photography. Check out this article for more tips on how to pose yourself or how to pose your subject
